A Heartbreaking Discovery
Lifting the tarp, he was met with a sight that broke his heart: underneath were three dogs confined in cages. Two German Shepherds and a Chihuahua had spent a tumultuous night outside in the storm.
The volunteer immediately alerted his colleagues to help rescue the trio and bring them to the safety of the shelter. Lisa Norwood, a spokesperson for the organization, expressed her sadness and frustration over the incident. “We had severe thunderstorms, and I can only imagine their fear with the traffic, rain, and thunder,” she told The Dodo.
Rescue and Care
Thanks to the combined efforts of the volunteers, the three dogs were safely brought to the shelter. Once there, they were given water, food, and warmth. They were named Cyrus, Peaches (the German Shepherds), and Gabby (the Chihuahua).
A Gradual Adjustment
Cyrus was the most affected of the group, clearly indicating that he would need time to adjust. “Peaches and Gabby seemed a bit calmer and were easier to handle,” Lisa explained. “Cyrus was very frightened by the experience and took some time to get used to everyone.”
The staff at San Antonio Animal Care knew they couldn’t keep the dogs for long, as the shelter was already overcrowded and struggling with the influx of animals.
A Hopeful Future
Fortunately, Gabby and Peaches quickly found their forever homes. Meanwhile, Cyrus was taken in by the German Shepherd Rescue of New York, where he now enjoys playing with other dogs while waiting for his perfect match.
Lisa Norwood is overjoyed that these dogs are finally living the lives they deserve, filled with love and comfort. “Their future looks fantastic,” she concluded.
