A police officer developed a fondness for an injured cat wandering around her station, prompting her and her colleagues to search for a shelter for the feline. When their search proved unsuccessful, they made a heartwarming decision about the cat’s future.
Una’s Arrival at the Station
The Grand-Pressigny police station, located about 40 kilometers south of Tours in Indre-et-Loire, now has a very special new member. Una, a cat that was rescued and cared for by the station’s officers, has become their newest recruit.
The story of Una’s arrival and adoption was shared on the Facebook page of the Indre-et-Loire police department.
The Beginning of the Rescue
It all started on March 10, 2024. On that day, Officer Karine noticed a weak and injured calico cat wandering around the station premises. The cat appeared to have injuries on her right paw and hindquarters.
The officers quickly set up a quiet and comfortable space for the cat to rest, providing her with water and food.
The Search for a Shelter
Next, they contacted the local shelter, the Paix Animale Association in Boussay, hoping to find a temporary home for the cat. Unfortunately, the shelter was unable to take her in due to an infection affecting their cattery, preventing them from housing any new cats for three months.
Finding a Home and a Name
The officers then took the cat to the veterinary clinic in Ligueil for a thorough examination. The vet determined that she was about a year old and, in addition to her injuries, she was suffering from a gastric disorder. The cat underwent surgery and was spayed during her visit.
The following day, the officers brought her back to the station, where she has since found a permanent home. “She has been living in the station under the care of Officer Alban, who has become her ‘guardian,’ with both learning to bond with each other,” the police department shared on Facebook. The officers decided to name her Una.
Officer Alban will also handle Una’s ongoing veterinary care, with the associated costs shared among all the station’s officers.
A Heartwarming Conclusion
Una’s story is a touching example of compassion and community spirit. Instead of merely seeking an external solution, the officers at Grand-Pressigny opened their hearts and their station to give Una the love and care she needed. This act of kindness not only saved Una but also brought a new sense of warmth and companionship to the police station.
