Hank, as he’s affectionately called, was a heartbreaking sight. A hiker found him deep in the woods, sitting motionless in his basket. Unlike most lively eight-month-old puppies, Hank wasn’t bouncing around with joy. Instead, he just sat there, waiting, surrounded by his sealed bag of kibble he couldn’t open and his old toys.
The hiker approached and immediately realized Hank was in desperate need of help. He contacted the local animal rescue organization, Humans and Animals United.
A Rescuer’s Concern
Rosa Fond, the director of the organization, came out personally to rescue Hank. She worried that Hank might be aggressive due to his circumstances, but she found quite the opposite.
“He was just a bundle of love: gentle, friendly, and sweet,” Rosa told The Dodo.
A Painful Injury
Hank’s demeanor indicated he was in severe pain. He was taken straight to the veterinary clinic, where the vet diagnosed him with a broken leg. The injury appeared to be over two weeks old.
“That’s why he never moved from his bed in the woods,” Rosa explained. “It was just too painful for him.”
Road to Recovery
The surgery to repair Hank’s leg was going to be expensive. The organization put out a call for help, which was answered by a partner rescue, Humans and Animals United, who could cover the surgical costs.
Hank’s surgery is scheduled soon. He’s now stabilized and no longer in pain. Thanks to the caring staff, he’s beginning to trust humans again. Once fully recovered, Hank will be ready for adoption.
A Bright Future
Many people have already fallen in love with Hank and expressed interest in adopting him. His days of suffering are behind him, and he will soon enjoy a happy life with a loving family, leaving his traumatic past behind.
This story reminds us of the incredible resilience of animals and the importance of kindness and compassion. Hank’s journey from abandonment to recovery is a testament to the power of community and the difference we can make in the lives of those who cannot help themselves.
