The team at Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) are no strangers to receiving calls about dogs in need—it’s their mission to rescue pups from the streets. But one recent call stood out from the rest.
A family in the city found an unexpected visitor on their porch—a tiny, gray bully mix who seemed to be seeking a new home. Unlike most stray dogs that hide under cars or in abandoned buildings, this little pup decided to wait right at their front door, hoping someone would notice her.
“We got a call about a small dog that had appeared on someone’s porch,” SRSL shared in a Facebook video. “The family thought she might be injured because she wouldn’t move.”
When SRSL’s rescue team arrived, they quickly saw that the dog was physically fine—but she had no intention of leaving. In a clear state of survival mode, the puppy—later named Babbit—growled and barked at the rescuers, trying to keep them at bay. But the team was determined to help her.
They started by offering treats, gradually earning her trust. Once Babbit let her guard down, the team carefully slipped a lead around her neck and gently led her away from the porch. Soon, Babbit was on her way to the shelter.
Exhausted and finally feeling safe, Babbit melted into the rescuers’ arms as soon as she arrived at SRSL. “She began to realize she was safe,” SRSL noted. “And fell asleep in our laps.”
Within a day, the once-frightened puppy transformed into one of the most affectionate and trusting dogs the shelter had ever seen. Babbit slept peacefully in her new surroundings, comforted by the gentle voices and caring touches of the staff.
The next morning, Babbit enjoyed a refreshing bath, which seemed to lift her spirits even more. “Our little, tiny Babbit felt happy!” SRSL wrote.
Shortly after her rescue, Babbit found a foster family where she’s currently living her best life. Not only does she have loving foster parents, but she also has an identical foster sibling. “Babbit has been cuddling with them on the couch, and she loves their little dog—her twin!” SRSL shared in an update on Facebook. “Look at these two, they are perfect together!”
While Babbit awaits a forever home, she’s the happiest she’s ever been. With her difficult past behind her, she can finally dream peacefully in her cozy bed, looking forward to the exciting adventures that lie ahead.
