Meet Sophie, a 7-year-old gray American Staffordshire mix who spent an entire year at Seminole County Animal Services (SCAS) in Florida. Despite being a favorite among the shelter’s volunteers, Sophie was consistently overlooked by potential adopters.
A Year of Waiting
Sophie’s days were filled with hope as she pressed her nose against the bars of her kennel, eagerly waiting for someone to notice her. Time and again, visitors would walk past her kennel, not giving her the chance she so desperately longed for.
A Volunteer Favorite
The volunteers at SCAS were baffled by the lack of interest in Sophie. They adored her soulful eyes and beautiful gray coat. “She’s a sweet older girl with soulful eyes and a beautiful gray coat,” SCAS wrote in a Facebook post. “[She] is a favorite.”
Although Sophie had a few behaviors to work on, such as learning to walk on a leash without pulling, she was more than ready to find a loving forever home. The challenge was convincing visitors to choose her.
Showing Her Perspective
In an effort to help Sophie find a home, the staff at SCAS decided to set up a camera inside her kennel to record a time-lapse video showcasing her daily life. The heartbreaking footage showed Sophie sitting or standing attentively at her kennel door, waiting for someone to notice her.
“How can anyone look into her eyes and not fall in love?” SCAS wrote on Facebook. “This sweet, soulful girl still has plenty of pep in her step.”
A Happy Ending
Just days before her one-year anniversary at SCAS, Sophie’s wish finally came true. Someone saw her video online and knew they had to adopt her. “Her new dad saw her on social media and just had to have her,” SCAS announced in a Facebook post. “We did it! After 364 days [of] living at Seminole County Animal Services, Sophie has found a home.”
Sophie has now settled into her new home and is living the life she always dreamed of. While her friends at SCAS miss her, they’re overjoyed to know that their beloved Sophie finally has the family she deserves.
