An Unlikely Bond
The story began when Sambath, a mere three months old, developed a unique bond with a female python. This six-meter-long, 120-kilogram serpent had been found by Sambath’s father under the child’s bed. Despite the inherent danger of such a situation, the python showed no aggression. Instead, it seemed to adopt the boy, and an extraordinary friendship blossomed between them.
A Mother’s Dream
Sambath’s mother, who had a premonitory dream of a snake protecting her family just before her son’s birth, saw the python’s appearance as a sign. The family decided to keep the python, naming her Chomran. Over the years, Sambath and Chomran became inseparable, spending countless nights together, much to the amazement of their community. This bond was nurtured under the watchful eyes of Sambath’s parents, who always viewed the relationship positively.
The Incident
However, this unusual friendship took a dark turn one day. Chomran, who had never shown any hostility towards Sambath, suddenly attacked, biting the child on the leg. It was an unexpected and violent shift in behavior. Fortunately, Sambath’s father intervened just in time to prevent a more severe injury.

Although Sambath escaped with only minor injuries, the incident marked the end of his friendship with Chomran. Realizing the potential danger the python posed, his parents made the difficult decision to relocate Chomran to a zoo. It was a heartbreaking farewell for Sambath, who had spent much of his young life alongside the python.
